It’s been a productive week, and a lot of things are falling into place. I like it so much better when you get to the point of happening to stuff, rather than it always happening to you. haha.
Not to mention all the BIG things on the horizon with myself , and the Artist Co-op. My friends from Fargo Strut are working on the next album and working hard to get the music out there. Love what’s happening in that camp!! BTW, We got the new band shirts in and they ROCK! Go up to the menu and hit the contact button if you’d like to rock one yourself.
This Celtic influenced design, with the Battle Axe and Dragon, pays homage to the band leaders roots. As the band name pays homage to his childhood roots and a love of Memphis wrestling legend Jackie Fargo doing the Fargo Strut.
I’m going to take you back on this one, with Take Ride. This video was the first live show that “Fargo Strut” played… hosted by yours truly @ FultzFest. Still finding themselves, this three piece version of the band features Chad Grant on bass, who happens to now be killing it with Killing Grace. Since then Tony Emerton (bass) and Mike Porter (guitar) have joined Jeffery Turner (lead guitar) and the man behind the band Billy Atkisson on drums, vocals and visions! Still love this song and thanks for letting me ride along!
It wont be long now , the much anticipated Fargo Strut shirts are on the way! Just like Jeffery Turner’s guitar…This badass logo screams rock n roll! Just go to the CONTACT section in the above menu to send me a message and Order yours today!
Across the Sky is Now available at several locations for digital download. Amazon is one..
A Photo-Op/FaceHole board created for McGriff’s Halloween Hellfest party. This was such a fun piece to do. If not for time constraints, I had so many more things to add! But at some point you just have to call it done and move on. Even so, this has got to be high on the list of all-time favorites!
This was created for a private party of rock-n-rollers with 3 live bands scheduled to take the stage. My friends from Fargo Strut, along with Vahalla , and Mindset Defect. Unfortunately, Mindset was forced to cancel.
Of the two acts remaining on the bill, I knew we were in for a treat all the same. And they did not disappoint!
Fargo Strut sounded phenomenal in their set and let us in on some new tunes they have been writing! I’m here to tell you, the title track from the next album in progress, will rock your socks off! And New Art ideas are swirling about the ol’ noggin.
And Vahalla (pictured below) is always so full of Energy! Terry Pallace screams out lyrics much the way you would hear from some old Judas Priest albums. Always fun to watch!
What a great night! I’ll tell you this…The McGriffs sure know how to throw a Halloween party!
It doesn’t matter who you are or what your interests are, you have be true to yourself to get the most satisfaction out of life. The late Denny Dent said “Whether you’re a butcher, a baker, or candle stick maker…Do it with passion! As an artist who has spent many hours of my younger days sign painting, It seems this new direction of art would only be natural..
The idea was to reign in some street traffic to our art show held last month. We happened to be hosting the same time as a car show and the kickoff of the Depot District weekend festival and live music performances..
What better way than live painting and a phot-op board to catch attention. People love to stick their face in a hole and become somebody else.. its a scientific fact! hahaha. Its just fun. Once this caught their attention we could have them step inside for more art. and it worked like a charm.
I think its good for the mind to mix things up a bit, and volunteering to do this face hole board for the team…I quickly realized it was a break from my normal thinking and creating process. So with a rough sketch, about $40 worth of lumber and the paint I had on hand I got started.
In the sketch, I decided I wanted a stereotypical beret wearing artist painting a woman who was interacting with him …reaching out of the canvas…Pulling him in.. Somewhere along the process the phrase” Do what grabs you” came to mind. That’s kind of the way it is with art for me. I’m drawn to it and I find at times I cant tear away from some form of creative thinking!! .” It Grabs Me !
To see people interacting with and laughing at your creation is a feeling of success. Faceholes are Fun!!!
Although this blog was started just to follow, like, and comment to a friend https://rhapsodyboho.wordpress.com/author/rhapsodyboho/ who is becoming quite the writer BTW, as well as just an inspiring person …
I figure I might as well use it as a platform, to share my own love of art and music and the occasional inspiration if it comes across as such.
Let me start by saying … As a child growing up in the 70’s and 80’s and having people in my life who were still hanging on to the hippie movement of the late 60s . Music came to have a special place in my makeup. I remember many a late night at my drawing table with 78’s spinning on my record player as I would while away the hours. I always thought it would be awesome to have my art adorn one of those covers. The Beach Boys “Endless Summer” double album comes to mind as “in my room” played through the speakers. As the 80s began and preteen rebellion slowly began to take place, my tastes turned a little harder and guitars screamed louder.
Today my musical tastes are all over the map, but my roots are rock and blues and generally guitars .Never coordinated enough to play myself I still include it in, and draw inspiration from it when creating the visual art that I can do.
As the years have come and gone, and my artist hobby has been abandoned and embraced off and on while raising a family, I really threw myself back into it in early 2014 as a broken marriage left me alone and searching for soul. I’ve always found it there in the past, and figured that was the best place to start looking again.
As proof of “You never know who’s watching” I was contacted last year by an old Jr High school acquaintance who I had envied as a guitar player, even back then. We discussed some ideas he had for a band that was forming and a new musical direction for him playing drums and singing… Fargo Strut was the name…and yes its named after the 70s wrestling legend Jackie Fargo. Its metal, but its not dark. Just fun, heavy grooving, riff metal he said. He sent me a link to YouTube to hear the only song that was available anywhere at the time.
Just a two piece back then, this was where our journey started together.
I loved it… and we got together to discuss his vision for the eventual album ” Across the Sky” . I had done some small logo creation for a couple of folks in the past and possessed the CorelDraw software that I was (and still am) learning. I also suffer from this genetic condition called “I think I can do that” Lol. So Challenge Accepted!!!
After many meetings , a trash can full of discarded sketches, and countless edited and saved Corel files …(for example, one was saved as”onemorelastfuckingF” lol. Because the lastfucking F wasn’t. I was getting a little frustrated with myself and computer crashes, and work not saving when it did ) ..We finally had something we were both happy with and the S and the rest of the art fell into place quickly. The feeling of satisfaction is great when two picky artists of different medias are in one accord and you just feel its right.. This is what we had created
In the process Billy and I have went from middle school acquaintances to good friends and I have even more respect for him as an artist and musician.Same with the rest of the band which is now a 4 piece… Its ccol to look inside the brains of people like him a little deeper. People with Vision .
Last week a dream from childhood that i never even persued came to realization, and the Across the Sky album is available to purchase… Adorning the cover is the art of yours truly…
